Week 2: Samuel


Comparing the origins of Israel's first king and Jesus our King (1 Samuel 1 - 8)

In order to be prepared to contribute to next weeks discussion, please read and contemplate the following verses 
  1. 1 Sam 1:4-6, 11-20 and Luke 1:5-26. Consider the similarity between barren Hannah (Samuel's mother) and barren Elizabeth (John's mother). 
  2. 1 Sam 2:1-10 and Luke 1:46-55. Both have recorded prayers from mothers (Hannah and Mary). 
  3. 1 Sam 2:21, 26 and Luke 2:40, 52. Notice how both grew in favor. 
  4. 1 Sam 3:1. Note the silence from the Lord similar to the biblical silence between Malachi and Mathew. 
  5. 1 Sam 8:4-8. The people of Samuel's time are looking for an earthly king and completely missing the fact of their Heavenly King.
